Guys, the current nibbleSMS application on cydia is now available (called munchSMS) on the App Store for iPod and iPhone.

It took us over 1-year, but it’s there now!

Congratulations, guys. :)

I don’t see it in the US app store either.

Can we expect any updates for munchSMS? The MMS support (Germany) or the current layout and features of biteSMS would be really great! I´d really like to see the features of bite here (which would pass the App Store approval of course). Especially since there is no convenient jailbreak method for newer devices…

Note: not available in the US.

Edit by Martin, it’s available in all countries except the USA, sorry.

Why don’t I have to approve my number? I can use any number I want.

Avatar Martin Administrator 4,047 post(s)

That’s right, you can use any number you want.

Avatar justsports 213 post(s)

Hmm I don’t like that..

Avatar Martin Administrator 4,047 post(s)

Me neither, but the way the payment process and support process is set-up and other competitor apps on the App Store meant that’s the way it went. But don’t worry it’s been a complete and utter waste of time, and we have only sold 150 copies. What a joke!

Avatar justsports 213 post(s)

If you are using Cherry SMS you have to approve your mobile number. So I think it shouldn’t be a problem to implement this into a feature version. :)
BTW great app, easy, fast and lite as bitesms is!

Avatar Martin Administrator 4,047 post(s)

Trust me, we won’t be doing any more work on munchSMS!

Avatar sneike 241 post(s)

out of curiosity, 150 copies of munchsms, and how many of cult shaver? just to check out if in the appstore are luckier the utilities or the inutilities!

Edit by Martin, hard to tell, Apple don’t do stats well like that, if I had to guess around 1000 copies.

Edit by Martin, we had a dictionary app called WordWeb in the early days, that did really well got about 50k for that, then sold it back to the license owner.

Martin, you may want to think twice because we don’t know if next generation of iPhone OS and hardware will be jailbreakable. Chances are high that they won’t be. For some people (like me and many others) biteSMS is the primary reason to JB.

You should do some soft promotion if possible – recommend it to BBC Click, engadget or gizmodo and if they publish a recommendation, you will get many more people looking for it. Also, put some better keywords in the description. If I search “cheap SMS” I don’t find munchsms. The only way I found munchSMS was from bitesms.com, then going to the forums…maybe cross promote it on the bitesms site.

I would hate for munchsms to die :(

Very important what sxc says !

Avatar Ray661 643 post(s)

agreed on the fact that maybe the problem with munch is that the word isn’t out. the only people that would know about it is people from the Bite community and that’s a jailbroken community so there’s no need for munch. So you need to hit it from a completely different angle imho

Avatar Ray661 643 post(s)

I would definitely buy munch when i go to germany, which is in two months, since there isn’t a jailbreak for the newest devices.

Avatar Martin Administrator 4,047 post(s)

Thanks guys, we’ll probably promote it when we get time, through something like pay-per-install using Tapjoy.

Avatar sxc 8 post(s)

You should at the least put a banner on bitesms.com saying something like “Don’t want to jailbreak your iPhone? Try out munchSMS for cheap SMS” and link it to iTunes.

And also rename this forum to “munchSMS on the App store”

Avatar Martin Administrator 4,047 post(s)

Thanks, that really is a good idea!

Please email me, and I’d like to give you a free license or some credits.

Thanks for the offer – I’m only using munchSMS now as I didn’t want to jailbreak my phone (was having some problems with phone crashing, so seeing how it goes non-jailbreaked). Just hope more people get to use munchSMS so that you are still encouraged to make improvements!

Avatar Martin Administrator 4,047 post(s)

We have added the “banner” so I’ll let you know how it goes.

Avatar Martin Administrator 4,047 post(s)

munchSMS is available on the USA App Store now as well.
