Release 3.0 out now…:)

Just submitted to BigBoss for hosting, so I’ll update this page once it’s actually out on Cydia…

Here’s the final list for this version:

Added Quick Reply! Now you can quickly reply to incoming SMS messages while your busy in other applications and without waiting for biteSMS to start-up.

Added Privacy feature, allowing control over whether the Name, Text and Preview window is shown for incoming SMS messages.

Much faster matching of contacts, especially for those users with very large Contact databases (+5000 contacts) – Yippee!

Quicker display of a conversation thread, especially where the conversation contained thousands of SMS messages.

Added auto-correction in settings page per active language, so when you switch keyboards the auto-correction setting for that language will take effect, both in biteSMS and Quick Reply – neat!

Added additional Smiley’s, and made them more quickly accessible.

Added the sub-menu (right-swipe in text box) showing “Add My Location” and Smiley’s to the Landscape mode screen.

When sending an SMS, you can now press the Power or Home keys and it will be sent as expected, without needing to wait for the “sending….” process to complete.

Added functionality such that the Intelliscreen “Launch SMS” feature now works with biteSMS.

Reorganized the settings screen and updated text, so that the settings are easier to understand.

Added an End User License Agreement into biteSMS, which only needs to be acknowledged once.

When you install this version of biteSMS you automatically get a free trial license for 20 days. Then, you can either buy credits which include a license for 12 months, or instead buy a full license, which does not expire. See bitesms.com for further details.

Thanks, we are also hoping to add scrolling to the Quick Reply (for long texts) before it’s put out on general release – lots of users asking for this, so we’ll do our best to get it added….:)

P.S There’s a missing feature in that the auto-correct per language support does not work in Quick Reply, but it will be fixed before general release.

just to confirm, if i turned of Privacy “Lock Screen Only” with Quick reply enabled. On the lockscreen, i didnt see any sms pop up (which is the reason of privacy) but did you purposely silent the incoming sms tone as well?

for me, i prefer to still get the sms tone with privacy on, or maybe a toggle on setting menu? thoughts?

okie thanks for the confirmation, shouldn’t we put the tone ON/OFF into setting? just a thought, ‘cause even though theres no sms preview, some people still prefer to have sound notification that they have received an sms, like me :)

in some cases the preview was set to off when friends browsing our phone and we don’t want then to read our sms, but still we need to hear if theres any sms coming :)

Fair point, I’ll chat to the developers, and see how easy this is to achieve (to add Tone setting in Privacy), apart from that, everything else OK?

yeap, tried QuickReply with preview OFF, and when incoming sms on lockscreen, after slide to unlock, QuickReply popup on the springboard, nice one :D

EDIT: Thinking about it again, on Privacy ON with QuickReply ON, in my opinion, it is OK not to have a popup after “slide to unlock”, coz thats the purpose of this privacy, right? apart for the sound, well i think its getting complicated LOL

It’s not fixed (yet), so you’ll find that does not work at the moment…not sure what you did, try again…LOL

An option to turn off/on the sound notification should be there since some people just want to hide the sms content but still want to be notified. All and all its a good app albeit it’s no more free for 3.0 beta. So how to purchase BiteSMS 3.0 and how much does it cost? Another thing, does the license tied to the IMEI nunber or something else i.e. if I change my current iPhone to iPhone 3G (or the rumored new iPhone), do I still need to purchase it again?

One more thing, putting BiteSMS setting in the iPhone Settings would be great so we can change the setting without opening BiteSMS.

You’ll be able to buy a Full License from our website from tomorrow, as we are still working on it! – i.e. you can’t today, but you’ll be able tomorrow….

Note: Or you can buy some Credits, which come with an implicit 12-month License.

I thought its because I Backgrounded biteSMS, but i tried without Backgrounder, the QuickReply still popup after “slide to unlock” with QuickReply ON and Privacy OFF

Ah OK, Privacy off is OK, and so is Privacy off (as long as the “Preview” setting in Privacy is ON)....clear?

just now i tried to send sms and quickly quit from biteSMS by pressing HOME button, when i launch biteSMS, theres no sms bubble that i sent and the content still in the box

That will only happen if you cannot get a Data Connection, or no Carrier coverage. In other words it could not send. Can you try again?

wait i need to confirm to my friend whether she get my previous sms or not :)

It did not send, so she would not have, i.e. if it’s still there in the text box with no bubble, then it didn’t send. Unfortunately there is no way to pop-up anything to this effect.

Hi Martin, thanks for the beta! Finally I can replace MySMS & iReal with a good product.

This feature would be a must, see if you can add it in due time:
- Ability to go back to Messages after pressing the ‘Send’ button. The message should be sent in the background.

Bug Found:

I have an existing conversation. I tried creating a new sms and sending it on the same number on which my earlier conversation exist.

I got an error saying “Unable to send SMS”.

Immediately when I tried replying from that conversation, the message was successfully sent.

I did test this. Press send and press the home button. It will return to springboard and i hear a sent tone.

Agree this feature is mentioned and it works beautifully. But what I was trying to emphasis on was: per say you have a couple of SMS which needs to be replied, so I reply to one and immediately can go back to
‘Messages’ to reply to others without closing the biteSMS app.

I did not encounter this. The SMS able to send and it append to the last of the conversation.

any chance of putting character counting on QuickReply Martin? just a simple “1/160” would be good hehe
