Release 4.95 out now on beta release.

Source is http://www.bitesms.com/cydia/beta4.95

This contains the following bug fixes for iOS 4 Firmware:

Fixed all known issues with Drafts and Backgrounder consistencies in conversation list and conversations.

A nice NEW feature for all those users who have been so patient with the iOS 4 bugs – you can now backspace in QC to quickly get back to the “To:” field. Makes it much easier to change the recipient name. Settings->Quick Compose->Backspace to “To:” default OFF.

Note: No changes for iOS 3 users.

Apart from a some minor bugs, the 2 main issues that remain and are being worked on are:

QC and QR animations between portrait and landscape need to be improved.

Still some scenerios where the QC / QR keyboard can get out of sync with the phones orientation.

Edit by Martin, if OFF in settings (default) no diff from prev releases. if ON then in the QC text field you can backspace back into the To: field.

I tried set ON for Backspace, on home screen type SMS (QC) and send my friend, but when i open biteSMS and open Settings->Quick Compose->Backspace to “To:” default OFF.I don’t know why.

Now it’s been fixed.

I sent 2 crash reports some days ago: one of them was a Springboard crash caused by biteSMS.
Now I see two new versions since reported and everytime there’s the “no changes for IOS 3.* users” note.
Will you fix things for us or leave us behind??

Avatar Martin Administrator 4,297 post(s)

@phloo, I have not seen a single crash report from anyone. Did u follow the FAQ auto-reply instructions for how to email us? (add “NOT FAQ” to subject line). Also have u tried 4.95 to see if it helps u as 4.94 did have some iOS 3 fixes (that were actually caused by a JB problem not bite).

My problem from 4.94 still exists. When I message someone from within the app then press Messages to to back to my SMS list, it freezes then crashes. Prior to 4.94 this did not happen.

Avatar Martin Administrator 4,297 post(s)

fred, can you send us a crash report, and iOS version, and if ads are on or not. Make sure you put NOT FAQ in the title. Email to help@bitesms.com

Use the Cydia app called “CrashReporter” to capture the biteSMS crash, and copy, then paste into an email.

Also does the native Messaging app crash as well? Does biteSMS crash when you open it from the biteSMS icon?

Avatar fred2028 50 post(s)

Thanks Martin, I will do this as soon as I get home. Some information for the time being:

iOS 4.0
iPhone 3G black 16 GB (Canada, Fido)
The native SMS messaging app does not crash. No problems with it …

QR and QC work perfectly. However, when I open the BiteSMS app and send a text from there, then click Messages to go back to my SMS list, the app freezes and crashes. This is consistent each time I send (not a 1-time situation).

I’ll send the crash report once I get wifi connection. Thanks!

hey martin, this is the problem i mentioned in the 4.94 thread, its still happening on the 4.95 release..

href="http://i25.tinypic.com/2gt6wio.png">http://i25.tinypic.com/2gt6wio.png[/IMG]

as u can see.. the text on the 3rd line onwards becomes cropped, then from then on, becomes invisible..

on ios4, 3gs..

Edit by Martin, please email me at help@bitesms.com. The trouble on this issue is I have never seen it and not received any other emails on it. So bit at a loss as to what it could be. Email me and we’ll do some troubleshooting steps.

Edit by Martin, @izzo reported the following “It seems to only be an issue when WeatherIcon and LibWeather are both running. If I disable either one of them, I don’t get the issue, but if they’re both running, I get an issue. These are a part of LockInfo’s weather plugin.”

@Martin & Co.

I’m truly loving BiteSMS. I remember when I had iRealSMS, I’ve been using BiteSMS since I’ve updated to iOS4 and its just amazing. Like, wow. So simple, clean, efficient, feature packed, and effective. Plus, you guys are constantly fixing and updating the app. Its amazing. I can’t wait to buy this app for my iPhone 4. I’m sure that moving from a 3G to iP4 is going to be like night and day in performance, and its that, that I’m excited about. Bite already works amazingly well on my 3G.

Thanks Guys.

As mentioned for the third time now, QuickList Icon still disappears in several apps.
Some examples are SBSettings, Cydia, Rock.

Edit by Martin, OK we’ll take a look at these, I am guessing these apps are doing something to replace the standard status bar. So many potential conflicts…..:(

More over I would like to use Notifier and IntelliStatusBarIcons which allows several plugins like KeepAwake, (Insomnia?), Notifier/Reminder to display Status Icons in the StatusBar.
BiteSMS has some compatibility issues with them : see this posting http://forums.bitesms.com/forums/6/topics/2561#...

Can this somehow be fixed ?

Edit by Martin, no short term plans at present. There are so many apps competing for the same “hook resources” and not sharing them, with no standards.

Ugh … syslogd is giving me trouble …........

Avatar thanhnh091 94 post(s)

@ Martin,

I have just send an email for u and biteSMS team, pls check and clarify it.thx!

@kosty, you said:

Nothing we can really do here, as the Mobile Substrate plug-in is specifically disabled by these apps when they load, I guess to “keep them safe”. Other MS apps like SBSettings don’t work on the status bar either in these apps. Seems logical to me.

Avatar bruiselee 3 post(s)

@Martin I tried disabling both the weather plugin for lockinfo .. it still doesn’t fix it ..

Avatar Martin Administrator 4,297 post(s)

U need to disable the MobileSubstrate dylib using SBSettings
