I understand that it only lasts for seven days back, I’m just saying I think it should be capable of being modded to user preference, or at least have an on off toggle. Maybe this could be grouped with the settings you’d use for resending failed sms (if and when you release it). I remember someone mentioning the settings being cluttered as a problem. A week of texting is at least 4k messages I’d have to go though to find the one that failed (lucky I keep good track of that anyway, shane isn’t that lucky, he found four so far since this release)

Forgot to mention but you said that the native app did the camera icon the same way you guys are doing it. My reply, purely for lols and to get my point out, but did apple ever do anything right? Half the stuff bite does should be in the native app anyway ;P

Edit by Martin, happy to see alternatives. But it must be in context and unobtrusive. For example, there’s no point adding the iReal smiley superimposed on the camera as suggested earlier, as they don’t provide access to “Add Contacts” and “Templates” here, so to me that’s wrong.

Concerning On the biteSMS icon, we now show a failed ! symbol if you have a message that failed to send in the past week :
When this happens(which it hasn’t for me the last week and a bit difficult to reproduce) – is it possible to have the same ”!” icon where the contact picture is currently shown(in the conversation list, to see which message(s) it actually notifies for)?

It’s subtle, the pink indicates that biteSMS has embedded more stuff, bit like the pink biteSMS icon in the cut&paste sub-menu. Otherwise we’d need a new icon to denote “Camera, Smileys, Add Contacts and Templates”. Thus apart from say a ”+” symbol superimposed, I like the pink. We also made it an image, so you can change it if you really want to!

I understand and agree, except on how the pink and look of it turned out. Can’t say other than I’m sorry.
The pink just doesn’t go with the rest of the symbol.

Any mock-ups appreciated, but think about it first!

P.S if the only discussions are on the color of the camera, then we must have done a good job…:-)

As for me, IMO a better icon for biteSMS would be the native camera icon with a ”+” imposed on the bottom right indicating that is the “camera +” icon.

OT: I’m really just curious.. what’s with the pink icon for the main and camera icon anyway? I just am curious of the story behind the pink SMS

@Martin and the rest of biteSMS team— any changes or plans of biteSMS behaving while backgrounded??

I’d love to see biteSMS work more friendly while backgrouded with all these new multitasking mods coming out (ProSwitcher, multifl0w, kirakae).

In my experience, biteSMS has been behaving while backgrounded but some times while sending an SMS thru the QC or QR, when going back to the biteSMS app the SMS.db is not refreshed unless you send another SMS from within the app.

IMO it would be a great signature/feature towards those who multitask often, those who have a 3G and use the biteSMS app all the time, and for all iPhone users who want to load up biteSMS with zero load time. ;)

I think it is funny that people mention the pink… I’m not a fan of the pink, nor am I a fan of the main bitesms icon, especially being pink, but, whatever… funny to see it repeatedly used, and people still commenting on it. I’ve always replaced the original icon, and am appreciative of being able to replace the camera should I decide.

My real question is how do people use templates? What are your top 3 used template purposes? I’ve always been surprised that this has always had a high vote list.

Please list your top 3 used or listed templates, I’d love to see uses that I’ve been missing…

My comments: GREATLY appreciate the failed sending indication… Love removing the X and I think one of your greatest enhancements is the custom buttons allowing an official Close button, and for Quick Compose only searching mobile and iphone numbers…
Is there any chance of adding that same ! to the Status Bar as well as a Badge on the icon to indicate a Send failure… THAT would be a great addition…

Noticed a very small bug. While in lock screen and in the “To:” block, the space bar flickers between space bar and the “space,@, .” buttons.

I use templates to say good morning like I usually do to my friends faster. Now instead of typing it, then copying it, and then pasting it over and over, adjusting it appropriately per person, I can just use the template to “paste” it in for me. While I wouldn’t chose it for other features, I do find some use out of it

definitely agree with the pink icon. never have been a fan of it at all! I’ve always just changed them and thank you to the biteSMS team for allowing us to do so.

templates – I haven’t used much templates since obviously we never really had that feature lol. but things I have put in there is common phrases that I usually say in texts just for the sake of saving time. example “hey what’s up?”, “you coming over?”, “you on your way?”

mainly common phrases that will save you time from typing them out when you use them frequently.

I, also, am curious to know how others use their templates.

templates wasn’t on the top of my voting list either but the feature at hand is useful.

I’ve never used templates before, but I just added stuff like “what are you doing?”, “when are you off work”?. That kinda stuff I guess.

I got something interesting inside the bitesms app. But I can’t reproduce it again. I was in a conversation in landscape and had the template window open, I then tapped the text field to make the window disappear and the app just closed to springboard. Not sure why.

I like that you can hide the X and add a close button. But now I miss the call button (the one I disabled). Is there a way to have all of them, but no red X? Maybe have the send button be a call button and when you type it changes to a send button?

Actually, with biteSMS backgrounded now, it seems to behave a lot better with refreshing the sms.db. Not sure if this was the goal but it’s working like a champ!

As for the “x” on the QR/QC, I dig the “x” on the upper right. Makes more functionality of the QR/QC and is clean.

(Beta3) After 28 day free trial, currently users have to purchase a license or credits. An additional option will be added, allowing a user to continue to use biteSMS for free with adverts shown. Primarily this is to reduce the incentive for biteSMS to be hacked or for hacked versions to be installed. Hopefully a win win situation.

does it mean ..who have bought the app before ll now have to shell out money again to buy the app????

If you mean we change the beta URL each time, that’s 100% intentional, so we don’t get a load of “old beta testers” not really contributing and perhaps complaining about the upgrade. In other words it’s only the die-hard beta forum users (like you), that’s who we want for Betas.
