Team,

using biteSMS 3.0.

For several times quick-reply works ok (after iphone restart). Then (as now) it would never show up. not when the phone is locked, not when it’s unlocked. not when i am doing anything with the phone.

As if the feature vanished. Rest biteSMS app works fine but the quick reply does not come up.

I do NOT use intelliscreen. I do use calendar lock (but again, it happens even if the phone is not locked).

any ideas???

thanks !

hi cheni, welcome to the forum !

Presently, biteSMS behaves such that if you do not unlock your phone to the Springboard within ~7 seconds till the time you receive the text, then QR shall not appear. Is that the probem you’re having ?

Avatar joxin 31 post(s)

Maybe you use another app that is related to SMS app. e.g Lockdown, iBlacklist / Mccleaner ? Mobile Gate (three of them can make text msg preview hidden). If it’s not the problem, then I’m clueless now.

Avatar cheni123 12 post(s)

Thanks Ramasaurus.

I lock the phone. send an SMS. within 2 sec i unlock the phone (which was on the springboard while i locked it) and it goes directly to the SMS application for regular answering.

The quick reply does not show.

I then restarted the phone. did exactly the same thing. and it showed ok with quick reply on the spring board as expected.

Problem is that this will work for another few messages and then be gone again.

Joxin: I do not use anything related to sms (none that you listed). Note again that it works for a few messages before going on strike.

Cheni, I’m sorry I cannot understand this line… :-( its not possible to send an SMS from a locked phone you see…

So suppose you receive a text message. You hear the incoming message alert sound and see it on your iPhone. The iPhone, at that moment, is asking you to “slide to view” the message. Then what happens ?

Avatar cheni123 12 post(s)

sorry :-)

I slide to view, then it opens bitesms application with the regular screen (no quick reply)..

the quick reply does not show. in other words, as if this is bitesms 2.0.

It is the same if i am for example reading my mails. an SMS comes in, and the quick reply screen does not pop up. I need to “home” then go to biteSMS to respond.

Avatar Ram 1,981 post(s)

Cheni, are you running the latest (public release) of biteSMS ? (v3.0)

Could you please tell us what firmware of iPhone you have ?

Avatar cheni123 12 post(s)

yes, 3.0.

Firmware 2.2.0 of the iphone.

just to remind: after a phone restart (regular, not hard reset) quick reply comes back again. But if i give it few hours (or few messages, not sure) it will just never pop up.

If there is any idea how to debug it while it happnes, please let me know.

Cheni

Avatar cheni123 12 post(s)

one more thing:

when the quick-reply stops working, and an SMS comes in i get the “preview” on the screen with the options to “close” or “reply”. This looks like the native application is kicking in and biteSMS is not “intercepting” the message.

I did configure BiteSMS to be my default SMS application. Other configs are:

privacy: off
using “mobile carrier”
enabel landscape: on
autocorrect: on

in case it helps….

Avatar Ram 1,981 post(s)

wow.. I have no clue on what’s wrong Cheni… I’m quite inclined to believe that its an interference with another rogue app since I’m running FW 2.2 and biteSMS v3.0 as well without any troubles.

Once you reboot your iPhone, the memory is dumped. Once you start using your apps again, the RAM starts filling up. This is just a hypothesis though. Let’s wait for the developers to comment on this.

I suspect the biteSMS dylib is crashing for some reason, cheni123, can you send us the following file next time is occurs:

/var/mobile/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/LatestCrash.plist

In the lack of the way to upload a file…here is a paste of the begining of the file. let me know if you need the rest and how to upload it.

Can you please email the entire file to help@bitesms.com

file was sent.

Avatar Tony Dehnke 69 post(s)

This happens to me too on 2.2.1

Avatar Martin Administrator 7,684 post(s)

Sorry guys, nothing came from the Crash Log…..I suspect you’ll need to do a fresh restore and then install biteSMS and add your other fav apps one by one, and hopefully you’ll find the culprit.

Avatar cheni123 12 post(s)

Hi Martin,

This is an unfortunate outcome..Doing a full restore becasue biteSMS crashes without really understanding why, does not make sense.

We are willing to keep debug this with you (well, until the demo license expires). But there is nothing tells us the crash will not happen again. There is obviously something that needs further investigation.

Just like an excel crash would not send me to re-install my MAC/PC.

Avatar Martin Administrator 7,684 post(s)

In fact all it told us was it was not the Quick Reply crashing.

What I can assure you, is that if you do a fresh restore and install biteSMS your problem will not occur…:)

Avatar cheni123 12 post(s)

you are a real magician Martin :-)

you don’t know what caused this crash but you know what will make it go away :-)

Avatar Martin Administrator 7,684 post(s)

Not really, I don’t know what causes your Quick Reply to not work properly, and out of 250,000 users I cannot possibly know every users configuration or application specifics. But what I do know is that if your iPhone is in a “clean base” state then biteSMS and Quick Reply will work.

It does not mean there is not an issue here, but I don’t have anything further to fault find with, so my suggestion was to simply do a fresh restore and install – up to you.

Avatar leonard 8 post(s)

I’m having the exact same problem as cheni too. Until a few days ago, everything was working well. Then I began to realize I could no longer reply directly from QR.

My privacy setting is ON, but only in “Lock Screen Only” mode as QR is on.

QR truly makes a difference in time spent waiting for the app to launch before replying. To do a fresh restore? Wow, let me sleep on it first before deciding.

Avatar Mickey 689 post(s)

Ok. So now it’s 2 out of 250,000 users! Hahahaha! Oh well. Gogo restore and then tell us if you have a problem. :)

Avatar Martin Administrator 7,684 post(s)

Do you have MCleaner installed?

Avatar joxin 31 post(s)

@cheni123
Maybe you could reinstall those system applications/tools such as: libutil, or core utilities, or even mobile substrate in cydia. Of course you have to set cydia into Developer mode to see those applications.
But I don’t know for sure if this way could solve your problem.
It’s just a sugestion.

Avatar leonard 8 post(s)

No Martin, MCleaner is not installed.
